Travel to Auckland, NZ for a 6 month stay. Entering under the Working Holiday Visa. Worry about accomodation?
I will travel to Auckland during early June to December. As I don't have any friends there, I worry about finding accomodation. I have heard that house owners usually only rent to people staying for 1 year and above, usually tied with a contract. I'm only looking to stay for 3 months or so.
Any suggestions from you guys? I believe to apply for a house would take me around 3 weeks to get a reply or so? So that is not very feasible as when I first land in Auckland, I may be staying in some hotel which may be costly. I really need some comments from both Kiwis and those who has been there for a similar kind of travel. Thanks guys!
If you are willing to live in a sharehouse (ie with flatmates/roommates) it will be much easier staying for a shorter amount of time.
The best place to check is trademe which is www.trademe.co.nz and follow the links to the flatmates wanted section. I have included a link now http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryAttributeSearchResults.aspx?search=1&mcat=2975-&sidebar=1&76=2975&selected135=&selected136=&134=1&135=7&136=&59=0&59=0&153=&x=67&y=10 which is the link to Trademe’s Auckland Central Flatmates Wanted section.
Often they want people to move in asap and some of them if aimed at backpackers will specifically say that a short term let is fine.

stay at a backpackers, their cheap and easy to find, you get a room with a bathroom in it normally and sometimes you have to share with another person, but you meet good people have a load of fun and it is a save enviroment,
When you get to the airport just look up 'backpackers' in the phonebook bussiness section to find a whole load of possibilitys.

landlords don't really do 3month lets, and you need lots of references and yer it does take a couple of weeks at least to find a rental.other then staying in a hotel which would be extremely expensive you could try renting a holiday home, normally they are rented on a weekly basis but you can find some that are willing to do monthly+ lets.heres a couple of websites you could try searching on
