Ok, it's not exactly a rock song or anything, but when it comes to National Anthems, I think the NZ National Anthem is awesome.
I'm from Australia and our Anthem is boring and criticised heavily, particularly by the younger generation of Australians for being uninspiring and not very patriotic.
God Defend New Zealand is possibly my favourite National Anthem, it's so moving when sung really well, and I think it's cool that you must sing it in both English and Maori language at sporting events etc.
In terms of actual songs, Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House would possibly be my favourite song from NZ. It was used in a tourism ad in Australia to promote New Zealand a few years back, and for some reason, no matter what Crowded House song I hear, it somehow sounds like New Zealand! |

Hi Wabby??
Anything - from Tanza's first recording in 1947 of Ruru Karaitiana's "Blue Smoke" with vocal by Pixie Williams, up to the present.
And that includes the likes of Inia te Wiata right up to the latest by his daughter, Rima.
(Tanza was the first NZ recording company.) |
