What are John Key's plans for the American issues? - nukes and alliances?

This is to raise discusion,

Will he continue the no nuke policy? Will he soften it a little? Just a little to let a few warships in? Would the people stand for it?

Will he decide to involve us in foreign invasions and make us a target of terrorism?

Thanks, as jennifer love hewiit says: key oh ra new zealand :)

The nuclear policy will not change - it is just so much part of New Zealand that attempting to change it is asking for trouble. New Zealand's foreign policy won't change much either. Key is a businessman and there's no profit for NZ in war. We pretty much do the minimum necessary so America doesn't screw us left, right and center (and enough to keep our commandoes gainfully employed). That's another reason why I doubt we'll significantly increase our military - it might make it too difficult to say no to the Americans for any future "adventures". The balance of power has shifted as well. Trade has always been used against us by America & by Europe (particularly the French) but the rise of Asia has meant that the bully nations have less leverage over us. In his days as a London trader they used to call Key the "smiling assassin". Personally, I don't mind him. He's smart, a loyal Kiwi and he's got a bit of heart. I think he'll put this countries needs ahead of anyone else's & so far I don't detect any need on his part to play the 'big man'. Time will tell.

New Zealand a target for terrorism? Nah. The story has always been that New Zealand is the place terrorists come to for a bit of down time!
