Loads of beaches, events of all types, cultural diversity, FOOD! Jobs and flats are easy to get, huge choice of schools, beautiful weather most of the time.
Auckland is NZ's biggest city, so it has the advantages of any big city (Sydney, London, LA) - except the transport system. It's improving, but you really need a car to get around, especially as the city is so spread out.
I came to Auckland in 2000, it's the 5th NZ city I've lived in (I'm a kiwi but I've also lived in England and Aus). I now call Auckland home.

It is the business capital of New Zealand has the largest population.
It is a real melting pot of cultures with a huge population of Islanders, from most of the Pacific Nations, Samoans, Fijians and so on.
See the city website below.

Most New Zealanders' live in Melbourne because NZ is too expensive. Its a beautiful place, but who can really afford to live there?

Maria
Auckland is really a very beautiful place but its expensive too. u have to maintain a life style there. cost of living is high there. You get good colleges there/ people are really beautiful at hearts and they are really kind, humble and soft spoken to foreigners.
Auckland is really a good place to live in but if u wanna have a happy and peaceful life,,, you need to have money there. :)

As a person who lives in New Zealand but not auckland...I can tell you some things that are good.
1. More jobs
2. more variety of jobs
3. more amentities
4. more envents/entertainment etc
5. Temperature wise, ok in winter (too much rain tho)
6. some nice views around the place

Bad things are expensive houses!!!, TRAFFIC!!! being a JAFA (Just Another F*****g Aucklander)....and all that comes with it, being ignorant about the rest of New Zealand...remember I am biased here! I found the weather wierd when I lived there .ie its sunny, its raining, its sunny again etc....
