See http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/ about a visitor visa (if needed)

LOTR was filmed in more than 150 locations all over New Zealand (including 30 Department of Conservation sites). - so you won't be able to see everything in two weeks.
However see http://www.tourism.net.nz/tours/lord-of-the-rings-tours/index.html - it lists all the tours in NZ

You can also do an online virtual tour the shooting locations here http://www.filmnz.com/middleearth/locations/index.html (click on the numbers on the map, it tells you where it was filmed and what was filmed there)

Don't miss Queenstown !

Have a great trip

Most of the filming took place in Wellington, some in Queenstown i think.
Im pretty sure you can just book tickets there are no requirments here unless your staying for years or working.

The best place to check your immigration status is http://www.immigration.govt.nz New Zealand has reciprocal visa free entry with many countries.
For LOTR information you could look at http://www.holidays-in-newzealand.com/Lord-of-the-Rings.html
which has information and videos on Lord of the Rings sites and locations, and a possible tour route through new Zealand for Lord of the Rings fans.

You can also see visa details on the New Zealand visa page.

The Lord of the Ring sites are quite spread out and you would not get to see them all in two weeks. I would suggest you look at the ones around Queenstown where there seems to be quite a lot of LOTR places to visit. Or Wellington also has quite a few . There are day tours in both places you can do to different LOTR locations, depending on what interests you.

you have to definitely go to Weta Workshops in Wellington. they have tours and stuff. Amazing.
if you are planing to go to the South Island you must go to Central Otago (inland from Dunedin), check out these books for a complete guide to all of the sites of LOTR.
