What are the snowy mountains in South Island that can be seen from Owhiro Bay in Wellington?
I was driving around Owhiro Bay (Wellington) this morning when it was very sunny. I saw in two snowy mountains across the sea. So I assume they are in South Island but I dont know which ones. Is it Mount Cook something?? How come we can see it from so far away :)
You are too far away to see Mt Cook.
What you see are the Kaikoura mountains.
There's the Inland Kaikouras and the Seaward Kaikouras.
The highest peak (and it's visible from Wellington) is Tapeanuku.
The photo on this page shows it well.
