There's plenty of campsites in the area of Raumati/Paraparaumu. I used to know of a cabin holiday camp called 'El Rancho' that used to operate there, see if you can find out about them. See if they still allow campers at Queen Elizabeth II park, which is about 5-10 south.

And yes the Kapiti coast is full of great things to do in summer, such as the beach, hikes, abseiling, fishing... you name it.

EDIT: scratch the El Rancho idea it looks like it's been taken over by Christians and reserved for youth groups and kiddies holiday camps.

Still, check the internet there's bound to be something.
