What do new zealanders think of south africans emigrating to there country?

First I hope you are not fishing for bigotry and racism, lol. I believe every country has a right to be concerned or wary about immigration in general and so the Q need not relate to SA only. The entry of quality immigrants who can add value would be most welcome, whether SA or Irish or Japanese etc.

I am a New Zealander and my partner is a South African - I met him three months after he had arrived here. I find it awful that so many New Zealander's assume he is racist (he is not - at all), although I know that the apartheid protests during the springbok tour in the eighties is still a recent memory for a lot of New Zealanders.
NZer's find it difficult to understand how South African's can grown up with black maids and gardeners as it is so different to our culture but the reality is that in South Africa there is so much abject poverty that if you have the ability to employ people and you do not then you are depriving someone from making an honest living. Another thing that NZer's don't realise is that black empowerment in SA has actually made it very difficult for white people to find work. This is one of the reasons (as well as the crime) that they emigrate to other countries. Nelson Mandela was a saint, Thabo Mbeki is mediocre, Jacob Zuma is a disaster. He will be the next in power and then SA will really decline. I feel very sad about this - South Africa is a beautiful country and every South African I have met has been sad to leave. But when you fear for your life and have no job security, and have your farm forcibly taken from you, then you are not left with many choices.
You cannot generalise about any culture, you are always going to find 'bad' South African's just as you will find 'bad' New Zealanders. But my experience has been very positive.

Quite a few South Africans have moved to New Zealand, and generally they fit in well. You need to be aware that New Zealanders mostly get along well with the local Maori population, and other races who have emigrated here. If a person wanted to leave South Africa to go to a "white" country then they might not fit in well in New Zealand. But if you come with an easy-going attitude, tolerant of all people, you will get along just fine, and will be welcomed at the local rugby and cricket clubs (or whatever you particular interests are).

New Zealanders don't mind south africans moving to NZ it's the aussies and brits they don't like. South africans fit in relly well!!

It had an open mind at first about South Africans when I first met them overseas. The trouble was that we were quite different with different attitudes. So now I'm not so keen on South Africans. Sorry.

S.A people are fie...but I sometimes find that they are really needy and attention seeking people...and sometimes they find the generally quiet and relaxed daily life of New Zealand too boring and then they get into arguments and all the waste of time stuff!!!

I'm sick of them.
I'm sick of all these people emigrating to our countries, (asian, indian, chinese, japanese, south african, australian, american).

They are overruling our country, schools and public places and to be honest they are ruining the "Kiwiness" of our country!!

I'm not racist or anything but the NZ Government are far too lenient on who they let into our country. Lots of immigrants are just living on the dole (which, might I add, is funded by our taxpayers) and making babies. They are doing nothing with their lives over here.

If you're coming over to NZ to make a career for yourself and you're going to put something back into the community, I'm all for it.
