Hangi, pavlova, whitebait fritters, Maori bread, toheroa soup, crayfish bisque, crayfish Newburg, paua (abalone) patties, oysters (Bluff ones are the best but unobtainable overseas, but all varieties are good); just about any shellfish dish. Most of these are difficult to obtain outside NZ. Do some Net research. What they call whitebait overseas is completely different from NZ whitebait, so beware, but I did see the genuine article on sale in London once, at a horrendous price. Some of our food is crap; we haven't learned how to make decent sausages like the Brits, Spanish or Germans. Our fish and chips is inferior to the British one. Huhu grubs do indeed taste like peanut butter when roasted. Raw they're different but good. Try roasting them and dipping in dark chocolate. The nearest thing I've seen overseas is Australian wichety grubs, but several countries have similar insect larvae found in rotten logs. Google it. Maori rotten corn. Easy to make anywhere. You just need corn cobs, clean running water and a few weeks.

I really think that you have to be actually in NZ to try our traditional NZ food. We export alot of meats and diary products overseas. Pavlova is a must with cream and strawberries or kiwifruit on top. And traditional maori hangi, which is food cooked in the ground. Huhu grubs, a NZ delicacy, apparently tastes like peanut butter. The best thing to do is come to NZ and go to the Hokitika Wild Foods festival.

Like NONE. We're multicultural and i think lots of the yummy foods are not from NZ.
Well theres pineapple lumps which are bascially just pineapple flavoured marshmellow covering in choc.
