New Zealand is a Beautiful country.
Please trust me on this, the health system is not bad. I am a doctor I have worked in many places including United States. I think am38 needs to go to another country and stop whining about how bad New Zealands health care is and see how bad the rest of the world is. Very ungrateful.
Under 6years old is free.
Dental care. My wife is a dental therapist training to be a dentist. under 18 dental care is FREE.
Taxes is just like any other country. (its dumb!)
The average wage for Veterinarian is $75,300 per year. In American dollars it is $41,420 (I am not 100% sure on currency) |

The economy, like all western economies, is in recession.
We are a socialistic democracy (grrrrrrr), so taxes are rather high, but not unbearable. |

The economy ain't so bad, but it depends on what line of work you're in, savings, lifetstyle etc. We are currently in a recession.
I think New Zealand's health care is pretty good. You can go to a GP for around $NZ15 if you sign up with the right one, otherwise expect to pay around $60. If you need urgent surgery you get it, you don't need insurance, although if you have it it speeds up elective surgery appointments. And as for other treatments like for cancer, you may have to wait.
I would think vets would make pretty good money, but I'm no expert. |

go to this site and read a little bit about this country...you are one of those naive migrants that NZ needs...www.expatexposed.com....I suggest you get proper information from other people who have experienced this country as a migrant...New Zealanders know well how to get the most of you...you will end up being a slave...if you are lucky you might be able to run away safely but if not you might be trapped. They can hold you by taking your vet liscence....just be aware what you want to do mate.... |

The health care sucks for one thing.
Supposedly free health care for under 6 yos is only available in reality in low decile suburbs.
Free dental care for all children is a lie too. In reality, you get free care from a dental nurse who has only had 3 years training and is substandard and in archaic premises to say the least. Real dentists that will take on children are few and far between and getting an appointment with them difficult.
Health care for adults is ok if you have health insurance, but insurance only covers certain conditions and usually includes a stand-down period.
Amongst general health practitioners, there seems to be little control over quality and you need to get recommendations from locals, as many of them are incompetent.
Free public health for adults is ok for urgent cases, but usually involves long waiting lists for non-urgent.
Migrants should also check that they qualify for any free health care - check first.
I don't know how much vets earn (try seek.co.nz) but if you plan to live in a major city, then you need a salary of over $100,000 at absolute least to support a family. I don't know how families survive on less. |
