What is it like to live in a hostel in Auckland City?

I am now comparing the pros & cons of living in a private apartment and living in a room at a hostel. Any information/reviews on the YWCA Auckland hostel on Vincent Street would be even better.

alright, not bad

Well, if you don't mind communal living, a hostel is alright. Just keep in mind that you will have to share the TV lounge, the kitchen, the bathroom and probably your bedroom with other people all day, everyday. If you're cool with that, a hostel is nice. You get to meet new people all the time.

As for myself though, I'd get a flat.

YWCA is fine, all female & safe but you might get quite a few lesbians staying there & that might bother some people.

Hostels are much the same as anywhere else in the world, the YHA ones are usually quieter & have people that are less likely to be party animals coming in making lots of noise in the middle of the night, etc. Depends what you want, an apartment will be private, more secure re not having to lock up your belongings all the time & you are free to use the bathroom at your leisure, etc but it could also be lonely so it depends what you value. If you choose an apartment but want company then join meetup.com to get out & meet others.
