I know nothing else but the following: 5 mins walk to the beach and even on a hot summers day I can share 10km of beach with maybe two others! About 2hrs drive to the mountains for winter skiing and summer trekking. 25mins to rainforests for pure hiking and not have to be worried about bears or lions wild animals because we dont got any. Enough km's between me and our largest city Auckland to actually not be too conecerned it actually exists. Endless summer nights of sheer bliss with neighbours, family and friends enjoying a barbie and a nice cold chardy! being able to walk around barefoot and not have to worry about poisonous snakes or spiders. a job where it pays for all the necessities and a bit more.
Guess I'm pretty happy with my lot - no complaints here! |

marcus-well said. The lifestyle is great if you are a more laid back kind of person. Due to the nature of my job, I am based in the larger centres, but as marcus pointed out, its great to get away from things and you don't have to bend over backwards to get that here
Its a relatively safe and hassle free place, and I feel that we really are truly lucky to be in a place that is relaxed, peaceful, safe and friendly |

The cost of living is high but the relaxed lifestyle and beautiful surroundings are worth it. We are removed from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world and people's attitudes are generally pretty laid back. I live in a city called Palmerston North ("Palmy") that is pretty central in the North Island of NZ. From here we can easily reach beaches, mountains for skiing and a lot of the touristy places if we want. Adventure tourism is very popular with hiking, mountain biking, bungy jumping, white water rafting, trout fishing etc. Rugby is the No. 1 game although cricket in the summer is up there and soccer popular too. It is winter here at the moment and it is cold (2°). Doesn't usually get much colder than this in the North Island but gets a bit colder down south. It is a great place to raise a family. Come visit! |

As far as landforms go, NZ is very young geologically, even though we were part of the original Gondwanaland.
The geology is still in the formative stages.
We have everything in the way of scenery and landforms that the whole of the rest of the world has, but, of course, on a much smaller scale.
Even our own small versions of the Everglades. |
