What is the cheapest taxi fare in Auckland?

In general, I have found Discount Taxis (529 1000) to be much cheaper than the rest. Their cars may not be quite so nice, but it's worth it.
As for airport fares, it's worth booking ahead and seeing if you can get a fixed price - just ask them approximately how much it'd cost you and then request that they take you for that price, rather than charging you by the meter. I don't think they would do that for you if you just approached them at the rank.
Also have you looked at airport shuttles? I use these all the time instead of taking taxis, it is cheaper and they drop you right at your door. Sometimes it may take a little longer depending on the amount of other passengers and whether their stop is before yours, but I never mind myself, and on many occasions I have been either the only person in the shuttle anyway or there are just one or two others. They can be booked beforehand but I never feel the need to if I'm taking it from the airport cos they're always there.
