What is the cheapest way to get from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia?

I've checked a bunch of airlines and websites (expedia, etc.) and flights are still really expensive. Is there a cheaper way?

Aerolineas Argentinas all the way! They're THE cheapest airline serving AKL-SYD route, If you don't care much about the in-flight service "It's just 3 hrs. hop!" I highly recommend them, You can book online but you have to pick up your ticket from a travel agency, I know it's inconvenient but that's the only way they do it down here.
Bon Voyage! :)

How much is too much for you?

Virgin in NZ was advertising $39 fares yesterday across the Tasman. (read it on stuff.co.nz)
Generally on a good day the average fare is about $240 one way.
They also have happy hours prices at lunch time.
Check them out.

--- NOTE--- Just remember when looking at some airline sites - they do not show the full fare to the next page eg) add on taxes, so even if you see a fare for $160, it might be another $100 on top of that for tax(s).

There are some awesome deals on www.statravel.com.au - you don't have to be a student, but it's nicer to you if you're at least under-26 (and you will need a card for $18). Check Flight Centre as well. Right now Jetstar is selling tickets for about $160.

I'm going to have to agree with the others here - the flights to and from NZ are cheaper than ever, so I'm not sure which sites you've been looking at but clearly not the right ones!

Have fun!

How cheap do you want the flight? These days - they are as cheap as they will ever be.
