there are so many interesting other web sites too....

I am part Maori and the National Costume is now only worn during kapa haka ( performing dance and music) or events to welcome dignitries etc....world leaders.....
The cultures that is the original inhabitants ( Maori people) and mostly the English are assimilated along with other nationalitys now, so everyday dress is modern i.e sports ,casual, fashion ,alternative etc....
Maori Designs on fabric and jewelery often look similar to Native American designs and very Pacific too....
Hope this helps....

The national 'costume' can be found by searching Maori clothing.
Like what this doll is wearing:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/6318/NZcostume.html
Or on a boy:
http://www.shopenzed.com/maori-boys-kapa-haka-costume-xidp139795.html

Or search for Kapa Haka, it's a traditional Maori performance where they wear traditional outfits like this:
Some good photos here

I don't have an image on this computer yet, but in due course, I will.
Now, men - leather boots, denim or corduroy trousers, black singlet, leather or felt hat.
Girls, heavy shoes, denim trousers, check shirt, and a felt hat.
An oilskin coat will finish the ensemble.
The "National" costume others may refer to, is a traditional Maori costume and is worn only for tourist and ceremonial occasions, and then only by the Maori people. It is by no means a NATIONAL costume.
Apart from the Maori costume, there is no indication that a National clothing style is developing, so the "outdoor 'Southern Man and Southern Girl' " mentioned above is perhaps the best NZ example at this stage of a national dress evolving.
