For observed average temperatures and rainfall data, check http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?alias=learningcentre and have a look at items in the Climate Data drop-down menu.
It's generally sunniest then, but always be ready for rain - warm weather or no. When we moved here from Hamilton, we started saying, "It's raining - this must be Auckland." Having said that, if you don't like the morning's weather, just wait half an hour or so...
February is our warmest month (max temperatures average 24º C/75º F), with March not far behind (23º C/73º F), but be aware that Daylight Saving will end on the morning of March 18 (as usual, the third Sunday in March). |

I lived in Auckland all my life until the last 4 years, they have been in Vancouver, Canada. Feb/March is a good time to travel to Auckland, but it really depends on what weather conditions New Zealand is experiencing that summer. Depending on if its El Nino or La Nina conditions, you could get either sunny and humid weather or you could get windy/rainy and humid weather (temperature around about 22-28 degrees celcius with humidity). March is also fairly close to the time when Daylight Savings ends in New Zealand, therefore the nights begin to get shorter and the temperatures drop a little. I would suggest travelling around Jan-Feb, those months are generally the best to be in Auckland for summer, but be prepared as mentioned above for humidity and harsh sun from UV rays entering the atmosphere through the hole in the ozone layer. |

Temperature won't be between 20 and 30 C. Frequent rain. Carry a light jacket for the wind and rain. Slap sunblock generously on exposed skin. Amazingly beautiful country. |

Blah blah blah to the other answerers. Im going to answer this as someone that lived in New Zealand for a while, and has visited as a tourist as well. Firstly, it depends on where you are. Auckland and the Bay of Islands (the northern part of the North Island) tends to be the warmest., Remember that Feb/March are their summer months. So, up North, you can plan on the daily highs reaching 80 or so degrees, and nights will be cooler. If you go as far south as Invercargill, the daily highs in these months can sometimes only go up to about 60 degrees or so. Cities in the mountains (like Queenstown) tend to be cooler as well, because of their altitude. Dont plan on it being real hot, but it never gets very cold either (except at high altitude locations, where it does snow in winter). As for sun, yes it does get pretty sunny, and because of the hold in the ozone layer, its a very harsh sunlight, you can start burning in like, 10 minutes on sunny days. So be ready with lots of sunblock! And enjoy your trip- one of the most amazing countries in the world! |
