Remember that New Zealand is a long skinny country stuck in the middle of the ocean, so it can be very windy. Febuary is our hottest month while July is our wettest. With all this nonsense of Global Warming (HAHAHA) I still have to turn the heater on in November. The weather comes from the west, so the West Coast of the South Island is very wet. East Coast of NZ is dry. In the North of NZ it is known as the Winterless North, but in recent times they have had heavy rainfall. I might suggest you ask a farmer in NZ about the weather as they always complain that there is never enough rain or sun.

As for the cost, well the average wage per year is $30 000 to $40 000 gross. Many Kiwis will tell you that they have no money, this is because it is very easy to get into debt with loans, credit cards, overdrafts, and purchasing things on HP (hire purchase). Kiwis do not save, they would rather spend their money. Youths in the late teens early 20's have no money but they drive around in $25 000 cars that they are paying off. Kiwis way of saving for their future is buying a house and paying off the mortgage and use their house as their savings

The Weather in New Zealand is often compared to L.A and other parts to Florida.....Of course it really depends which part of the country you are in and at what times......
Four Seasons in one day are not uncommon......though its predictable that summer will be hot and winter cold....just not extreme heat or cold like the North or South in the states....

I am a New Zealander and lived here all my life ( 50 yrs)....but Im hoping to relocate to SC....U.S.A next year.....because I cant afford to buy a home here and the taxes on petrol ( gas) are just outta this world........plus the economy here in NZ seems to be geared for the rich and famous to afford....

New Zealand will always be Paradise to my heart but I gotta use my head to make money somewhere else for now....

Weather is fairly mild in the North Island - except for those areas in central North Island or where it snows. Cold in South Island in winter - but it rarely snows in the main cities. Very cold in Dunedin which is further south. Not many areas where it goes much below freezing except on the mountains. Rains a lot in the North Island. Wellington is rarely hot, Christchurch can have higher temperatures in summer even though it is further south. Rarely goes above 30deg celsius in Auckland.
Can't compare with America as I don't know the cost of living there, but Australia is certainly better economically than New Zealand because the pay is higher and the tax lower. Approx 35,000 people leave New Zealand permanently a year to live in Australia. One of the great things about NZ though is that we don't have snakes and very few dangerous spiders etc.

DO NOT GO TO THE WEST COAST!!! its cold there all the time! the hottest place is in the East coast. the best place in the world. visit a little town called Wairoa, it has got to be the hottest place in New Zealand. the hottest it has reached was about 40 degrees. or else go far north.

it is way cheaper than living in the states too, well i think so....
