What is this new copyright law they are going to implement in New Zealand?
An amendment to the Copyright Act. It is causing a lot of protest at the moment - and John Key (Prime Minister) has just announced today that they are going to delay implementing it (til 27 March 2009) to "see if the sector can make it workable". It might be suspended if they can't reach agreement.
It's aimed at stopping copyright abuse on the internet - but those opposing it are concerned at the "punishment without trial" aspect of it - the idea that you could have your internet account closeed just on the accusation that you breached copyright.
The last link below is to the actual wording of the sections that have caused all the controversy - s92A and s92C of the Copyright Act 1994 (as amended by the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act 2008)
