hush jesus.everyone in the country votes for one of the political parties. labor won the last election and so helen clark is the prime minister. there are 5 parties with seat in parliament. also, the country is divided into small electorates and each electorate has a seat in parliament. i cant remember how many electorates are in christchurch. everyone in christchurch votes for a representative of their electorate, from one of the political parties contesting the seat. so everyone in chrictchurch votes twice on the same day, once for a political party to govern the country, and then for a politician to represent their electorate.
we also have smaller administrative bodies like a city council and environment canterbury and court etc...
oh yeah and you vote for city councilors by voting for a representative of your suburb.
