Hi, I have applied for residency in New Zealand, it is in process, it may take long time as u know,
Normally permits like work ,study expires before passport expires .
my passport expires in 2018 if i get residency pemit in next 6months what would my residency endorsmet would say? would it say I can live permanently even my passport expires in 2018 or do i have to apply in 2018 again when i get another passport? thank u in advance.

Once you have been granted residency that's it. You never have to apply again. When your passport expires what you do have to do is take your passport to immigration NZ and they transfer over your residency sticker to your new passport and charge you $100 odd dollars to do it.

It seems strange that they will not talk to you.
I don't want to misinform you, but I think once you are granted residency it will not matter about your passport.
