no, year 9 is first year at high school
so you will be in yr 11 or yr 12
since you are turning 16 before the 1st term starts I think you will be in year 12 |

The Academic school year in nz starts at the end of january or the very start of February. So if you start at the beginning of next year you will be be a year 12. |
