Whats Auckland like to do with violence?

I may have to move to Auckland soon. I want to know how the violence scene over there is because here in Dublin it is very bad, you can do as much as looking at someone and get your head kicked in. So anyone out there that knows could you leave an answer please. Thanks.

Auckland's got a violent element. Especially South Auckland. The city centre can be perilous after hours. It's also badly vandalised and grafitti'd.

But it's not THAT bad. Most of Aucklanders are isolated from it within their suburbs.

Don't let it put you off.

Murphy
It is violent, but not like anything overseas. The NZ media may tell you otherwise, but they just want ratings. People living outside of Auckland may think it's violent but that's just a sterotype of Auckland.

Auckland is alright. Just don;t step into south Auckland and you should be fine. Especially areas like Manurewa and Papakura.

I disagree with the previous commentators.

I am an Aucklander and have lived in several cities around the world - currently in Melbourne, Australia. (Where incidentally the Police here are looking for three Irishmen who attacked a bouncer at an Irish Pub who glassed him and half killed him.)

Auckland CAN be very dangerous after dark. I have many friends and family members who have been attacked by mobs of 'Street Kids' who demand money or cigarettes in Downtown Auckland, so do take care.

New Zealand scored highest for thefts from cars, second highest for burglary, fifth highest for assaults, 10th highest for robbery and 11th highest for theft of personal property and for sexual assaults against women in The International Crime Victims Survey. The survey compared 30 countries in 2004 and 2005.

there are some dodgy parts in auckland but it's only mainly in south auckland. its really not that bad. if you still to want move here, you may want to move somewhere in east auckland like botany, howick,..

My opinion.
Depends where you live. South Auckland is violent and has a lot of gangsters. Central is okay but like I said, depends on where you live. Every suburb is different. Some has more stealing than others.

North Shore, Auckland is soooooooooooo safe, i used to live there, but mind you i only moved because we got robbed. South Auckland is yucky, dont go there

Hamish
Nope Auckland isn't a voilent city. They play heaps of stuff on the media about rape and other bullshit but I've walked around in the dodgier parts of Auckland at night and nothing bad happened to me. (Although I wouldn't walk around the bad area's after 8 ish)
Most people are nice towards others.
