check out auckland city council website : go to "what's on"..often some of the best things on are free events by the council..at the moment their is open air cinema at various locations around auckland, free music events, festivals etc. Otherwise i would recommend the usual: shopping, movies, cafes etc. If you can get out to the north shore their is night skiing at snow planet, and twilight luging at the nearby luge track, and go-carting. Sometimes the zoo has night visits....just a few random ideas to throw in the mix.
oh yeah, if you are in the central city, you could jump a ferry to devonport or waiheke island, grab a coffee or whatever and come back checking out the night lights and other boats...
