When will New Zealand gain independence from Australia?

This was a major topic at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, when there were protests against Australia's continued occupation of New Zealand. The United Nations collectively and completely regards this as infringement on the independence of the free state of New Zealand.

Australia has owned New Zealand for too long, and I believe it is time we sanctioned all Australian products until Zealand is freed.

Australia cannot continue to opress the Territory of New Zealand, be it legally their province or not. If boycotting beer and wines does not work, the West must take further action which may or may not result in military action.

Very clever but I really hope you are just having a joke. I do think it was offered to NZ to be part of Australia when Australia was federated in 1901 but NZ declined. We are definitely two VERY separate countries.

Since when has Oz occupied NZ?

steve j - both countries are independent parliamentary democracies within the British Commonwealth, they ceased being "colonies" a long time ago - suggest you research without reference to wikipedia.

ummm... obviously a joke. But i think the opposite is more correct, a recent poll found 1 in ten NZers are thinking about moving to australia. And thousands of kiwis a year cross the ditch and come here

Never, I heard there are plans to rename it Tasmania Two.

I really, really, really hope that this is a joke (which I don't really see the humour in) and not just blatant ignorance.

New Zealand Inc is a subsidury of the Australian Mining Company, which is wholly owned by Nippon Industries of Japan. Your rage is directed at the wrong people. I have stopped eating sushi, that'll teach them!

Australia does not own nz,nz is owned under the british ruling you go research your facts properly. Australia actually has nothing to do with nz so yea your wrong. Nz is under the crown

You need to a little more research on this one or you'll get some heated answers. NZ and Australia were colonies under the crown of Britain but have not been for many years. They each have their own government and Prime Ministers. They have nothing to do with each other either economically, politically or governmentally. There is a good natured rivalry between the two countries much like Canada and the USA???

they will never have independance until they learn to wipe their own grotty little botties.

steve j
Unless I am very wrong both Australia & New Zealand are British colonies. Australia does not occupy or own New Zealand.
