There are some amazing places in Auckland to eat! It all depends on your taste and your budget.
Some places may require you to book ahead as they are very popular.
There are websites set up with info about different dining spots, try googling Auckland and dining, I don't remember any off the top of my head.

Now my recommendation would be the Mexican Cafe, it is located on Victoria street near the sky tower. I would recommend booking a table in advance! It's a really great place to go out.
A few other ideas:
If you have a bit of money to burn then the revolving restaurant (orbit) would be fantastic place, again booking would probably be a good idea.
If you're looking for a pub meal then there are some great lively bars on Vulcan lane, just off queen st. The occidental has a great selection of Belgium beers and does really good mussels.
The Mezza Cafe on Durham lane is also really good if you like middle eastern tappas, it has a nice relaxed atmosphere, sort of dark and lit mostly by candles.
I haven't tried it but wildfire in the viaduct is meant to be an experience.
