Smorgasboard restaurants would be a good idea for kids maybe? (i don't actually have kids) but have you tried the garden restaurant or sequoia 88? they are both smorgasboard with a slight lean towards asian, namely chinese food but a real mixture of everything and dessert too

Dennys Restaurant - has fried food eg fish and chips, nuggets suitable for kids, has color in paper thingys for children to do, but the food can take ages to come, suitable price range, in Moorehouse which is near town
Lone Star - quite a busy bar/restaurant that also has coloring in, and childrens menus, texas-styled layout of shop (cowboy ornaments, indian ornaments in the shop), is very popular restaurant, not that cheap either, lot of adults go there at night, also in Moorehouse (near town, opposite Pak N Save supermarket)
Drexels - American breakfast cafe/restaurant situated in town (Hereford St), has childrens menu, delicious food although quite pricey, friendly staff
