I just meet a friend in NZ and he lives in Christchurch, NZ. Is that the best place to visit? I might end up going there just because of him. ;) |

Snort - Red White and Blue has clearly never been to New Zealand! Crime is no more rampant in New Zealand than any other country - in fact, there is probably less crime than other countries. I invite Red White and Blue here for a visit to see for himself.
Well, as for your question - yes, Christchurch is great city. You would do well to go there. As for the best place to visit in New Zealand - you will get all sorts of answers as New Zealand is such a diverse country. If you like the big cities then Auckland and Wellington are great - if you like scenery then stick to the South Island.
No one has mentioned Dunedin yet - it is also a great city to visit - lots of old buildings, character, charm and an enormous amount of wildlife out on the peninsula.
Where ever you decide to go you will love it! |

There are lots of places to go to in Nz...it depends on what you like....if its scenery then there are lots of amazing places around the place....the South Island is considered prettier for the most part with places like Queenstown popular, but I like the West Coast ( of the South Island) as its so pretty ( but not many people live there)...I have lived in Christchurch for many years on and off and really like it as a city. its close-ish to places you can go and visit eg west coast, kaikoura ( whale watching), southern alps etc etc.
It depends on what you like to see.

yeah 'red white and blue' is full of ****. nz is very safe.
the best reason to come to nz is for the mountains, lakes, and beaches..... not the cities.
try milford sound, the west coast of the south island, marlbrough sounds, bay of islands, golden bay, coromandel, wanaka, queenstown.... |

I live in Christchurch and it is a wonderful place. Very nice and clean city and most people are very friendly and laid back. Christchurch also has many beautiful beaches and there is also plenty of opportunities to go on stunning walks around The Port Hills and Banks Peninsula. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from and the shopping is good by NZ standards. The climate is reasonably pleasant and we have great summers but the winters are horrible unfortunately. Christchurch has a very small population of only 330,000. Housing is great ranging from the most modest state house to the biggest mansion. Christchurch is also very well located with many brilliant things that you can reach quite quickly like:
Mt Cook ( NZ's largest mountain) Kaikoura ( whale watching) Hamner Springs ( hot pools) and a whole lot of other great things that can be made into a good day trip. Christchurch is also dubbed The Garden City Of The World. You should definitely come and live over here! All of New Zealand is also just as beautiful and stunning! Good Luck on coming over! |

Wellingoton is pretty sick. I like it here. My uncle and my cousins live in nelson, thats really good too. Chrsitchurch, never been there, but it looks good.
As for the crime comment, well its not rampant. lol. It's nothing like the US or England I can tell you! I feel quite safe to walk down the street at night.
I use to live in Brisbane. That has crime but its a pretty sexy place to be lol |

The best place by far is the west coast of the South Island. The diversity of scenery along the west coast is amazing - I've never come across anything like it anywhere else in the world. Over a few days you can see excellent beaches, rain-forests, lakes, glaciers, ghost towns, mining towns, adventure town (Queenstown), lush green country side and barren terrain. Hard to beat that! Make sure you go to Milford Sound - at least drive to the pub there and have a beer. If you like hiking then the Milford Sound trek is awesome as well.
Enjoy! |

crime is not rampant in nz lol .. if whoever said that is american then isnt that ironic.. I have to jump on Wellingtons bandwagon and say its the best place ..
1) ideal location in the centre of nz
2) coastal area with many lovely beachs
3) not as populated as chistchurch or auckland yet we have the greatest amount of restaurants and cafes per head ..
4) friendly people
5) political capital home to the 'beehive' parliament buildings
6) home to nz's only proffesional soccer team the wellington phoniex who play agaisnt the australian a league teams . |
