I'm leaving New Zealand tomorrow. I see there's a $25 fee you have to pay to leave the country. Where at the airport to I pay this fee? Is it when you check in your luggage? Do they want $25...
As in, if I wanted to call there? I think the site I looked at had it wrong. I used the Christchurch area code, but that doesn't seem to work....

One Tree Hill (or Maungakiekie in MÄori) is a 182 metre volcanic peak located in Auckland, New Zealand.
BTW - Irish rock band U2 wrote a song about the hill, "One Tree Hill", which appeared on their album The Joshua Tree. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=916
--------------------------------------...
It was attacked twice with chainsaws by MÄori protesters (partly because it was not a native New Zealand species and thus considered an insult). The first attack happened on 28 October 1994 and a second attack on the 5th of October 2000 left the tree unable to recover and so it was removed due to the risk of it dying and falling down.
A new nickname, "No(ne) Tree Hill", is popular.
Last time I was there was 19 years ago

The original tree that stood atop this cone was a Totara (Podocarpus spicatus). It was sacred to the tribes of the Tamaki region because it was grown from a seed that had been used by a tohunga to sever the umbilical cord of a man who became a Tamaki Chief.
In the early years of pakeha development it was cut down to build a house for a local settler.
It was replaced with many different seedlings but only 3 actually grew in the exposed environment. They were all of the maritime pine species.
Two were felled by vandals about 20 years ago and the remaining tree was attacked by vandals periodically in recent years too, until it had to be removed as unsafe.
