Which area in Queensland would be the best to relocate Cairns or the sunshine coast? Husband is a painter ?

Family thinking of relocating to Queensland ( 4 teenage kids). We are after a nice area which is not too built up or touristy. Being near the water would be a plus if not within commuting distance. We are after a area with a" nice community feel" affordable real estate good schools and employment opportunities. We are looking at either somewhere on the Sunshine Coast ? or possibliy Cairns? Which of these areas have
good prospects for a painter and decorater Thanks for any answers received Ella

I think Cairns would be great for you. Safe for the kids, the can bus into town, go to the malls, movies etc. A wonderful Esplanade with lagoon http://www.cairnsesplanade.com - very family orientated. So much to do and see all the time and ALOT safer than the bigger cities. No traffic jams or overhead motorways or skyscrapers.
Qualified Painters are sought after big time. ( My son is a painter) There are even opportunities to out of town work like remote communities where they will fly you there and back, pay for everything including accommodation and meals.
There are plenty of beaches to live at in Cairns called the Northern Beaches, 15-20 mins from the CBD.
Go to realesate.com.au and search under the postcode 4790 (for Cairns CBD) or 4879 (for Northern Beaches such as) Trinity Beach, Trinity Park, Kewarra Beach, Clifton Beach for an idea on prices to rent or buy.
For High Schools in the beaches area are:

Primary Schools: http://www.studycairns.com.au/primary.html
James Cook University http://www.jcu.edu.au

* EDIT
Not sure what the user below me is saying about not working in the wet season. Painting is inside work too ! No one stops working because it's raining LOL

The Sunshine Coast for sure. Bigger area, so more jobs. Cairns has a wet season so more days when you cannot work. It's also high humidity so can be very tiring . The beaches are not good for surfing and swimming in Cairns.

Driver T I know the reason they don't ask these questions under the right country category. If they are not using the Australian or New Zealand Yahoo site then the two countries are actually listed as the one category.
As to which is the better place to relocate to why not look on one of the jobsearch site to find out which has the most job availabilities? as to lifestyle they're pretty much of a muchness the only main difference is temperature, Cairns is hotter.

Why oh why don't you ask this question on an Australian page?
Aussies are far more likely to know about Cairns, Sunshine Coast and Queensland in general than any New Zealander.

ohkatrin!
i live on the sunshine coast, near the world famous noosa. and even though it is a tourist attraction, it isnt packed or overpopulated. it is a friendly, homely community that kids will adjust to very quickly. i know this because i am 16 myself, and i find it hard moving place to place. i know that i want to live here forever because of the people, the lifestyle and the location.
so, i recommend the sunshine coast so much more than cairns.
