Which district of Auckland & The North Shore is best to live in? |
I will be moving to work in Auckland from the UK next year and will be in NZ for a fair few years (I have visited once before & think it seems a nice city to live) . So myself and a work college who is also being transfered there, have decided that maybe after renting for a year or so, we will purchase a place in Auckland.
My question is in what district/area of Auckland or the North Shore would be the best for us to look at ?
..We will be 28 years old when we move there and so we don't want to look at buying anywhere that is too far away from work, the bars/nightlife/entertainment etc ...but at the same time we need to find somewhere that will give us good value for a money in a nice neighbourhood..
Can anyone advise?
Thanks! |

You really need to find out where your work will be and then buy somewhere close, or easily accessed as the motorway is pretty busy in peak times.
Cost will no doubt be a big factor, and I agree that renting first may be a good option until you can really look around.
Albany...well I can't understand the attraction! There is nothing there except subdivisions with large new houses, shops and industrial areas. If you lived in the East Coast Bays you are still only 5-7 minutes from those same shops with lovely beaches on your doorstep and views.Browns Bay has about 4 beach front cafes and Long Bay is great. All the beaches have their own special features. If you want the city night life you may prefer being closer in or on the city side.
Have a look on http://www.trademe.co.nz in the real estate section to get an idea of prices and what areas suit your budget. |

on the North Shore, Albany is a great place to live!
it's a busy developing suburb, has great malls and facilities and is close to motorways etc.

You have definably been given a great time to move, Auckland housing prices are finally down after being at their highest recorded peak in years. At the moment, the place to be is in Albany on the North Shore as you will find the almost all aspects in the area have flourished including the biggest new mall in N.Z. You will find that your suitable housing will also turn out to be an great investment after a few years owning property in this area. It is near many high-class schools as well {just in case you have kids} and many other features are also being planned such as pools, new library and lots of nice apartments.
Hope this helps! |

I would wait till you got here to see which area is going to suit you and your needs.
It is a great time to buy at the moment as the prices are coming down.
I suggest do the renting part and then start looking around for that perfect area. |

I think Takapuna would be great for you. It's very central (only 5 minutes from the city centre, 10 minutes to Albany) very easy to get to and from and it's a nice place.
Albany is nice, but it's further away from the city and more out of the way.
That, or a central city apartment would be good for you I think. |
