Wellington,
It has less 'rough' suburbs and It is smaller easier to get around in (think your teenagers and using bus routes)
AND there is also always the house prices....Family home...3 bedrooms $200'000 difference between the cities.
However, It is where you think you want to be that counts, stay in both cities for a while, get a 'feel' for them and go with what feels best for you! |

I would choose Wellington. Even though Wellington is more hilly and more windy. Think about the cost of transportation, i'm sure you have to travel alot more if you stay in Auckland than Wellington. Think about children's safety. Big city always associate with big social problems. Think about health. Hilly place like Wellington is a good place to excercise, and you will live longer because you excercise alot! And windy place like Wellington dry your clothes faster than Auckland :) |

Hi,i've recently been to NZ on holiday,i visited both Auckland and Wellington and i loved them both,in fact NZ is just Fantastic, but if i had to choose one to live in,then Wellington would be my choice,it was more laid back and chilled in Wellington, were Auckland was busy and Vibrant, its a tough choice,i suggest visit them both and then make your choice, good luck, whichever you go for,i'm envious but wish you well.Your gonna love it. |

Wellington - has more of a community feel for it. my plan is to move back ( im 22) when Im ready for a family and live around Days bay, you feel like youre in a small beachside community.
But wellington is great - steer clear of Upper hutt or the burbs in between porirua and the Hutt - Canons creek etc etc.
but GREAT city, miss it dearly .
p.s I currently live in Auckland - for lack of graduate jobs in wellington. so know both |

Actually Christchurch
Surf beach, ski mountains, kart racing and laserquest for the kids .
I hours drive to dolphin swimming.
Fairly flat (if want bikes)
Wellington is far far smaller.
South Auckland has rough rep
Wellington more like a small town.
Wellington very windy
Auckland very hilly, bigger more jobs
Bigger asian ie koren and japansese community with the food to go with it. |

I personally would say Auckland. I grew up there and have lived there most of my life. The outer suburbs are safe. |
