Kiwis who don't know about Hawera are just ignorant.
It has one of the largest dairy factories in the world with 3 trainloads of milk a day ending up there from right across the North Island.
It has Mount Egmont on its doorstep.
The main highway has an important junction in Hawera with one road going to New Plymouth via Stratford and Inglewood, and the other going via Opunake and Oakura - past some of the best surf beaches in the country.
The Elvis Presley Museum is in Hawera, as well as the tarawhiti Museum.
And of course, the Water Tower.
And let's not forget the teen pregnancies.

Yes, flew my plane over it Friday. South of Mount Egmont. Teen pregnancy capital of the world!
