Why did TV1 pay for Tama Iti's family to go to Waitangi today?

Why did TV1 pay (using NZ tax payers money) for Tama Iti and his family to go to Waitangi today?

It doesn't make any sense to me what so ever..
Additional Details
I would be more likely to boycott channel 1 for using tax payers money to pay for his family to go on holiday.

as others have said - great for ratings and the news 'journalism' in this country (especially the t.v journalism) is no better than tabloid muck.

Probably to stir up some crap in the hope of a confrontation between the PM and that buffoon.

I am glad she stuck to her principles and didn't go down to the lower Marae.

Listening to talk-back radio last night, you aren't the only one infuriated by this - nor the only one who is going to boycott TV1 for funding it. Will they notice? At least they've got the message ........

Come on Wabby Tama Iti is known for his confrontational actions and he is great for ratings.

Boycotting a certain TV channel TV1, does not help any one except you. Organising TV channels are not in our hands, not in yours too.You cannot save tax payers money by boycotting it.

But your boycotting is a very good self restrain. Not seeing the TV channel would naturally keep you cool and happy. Why worry about others at this stage of life, when it is not practicable for you.
