Working holiday New Zealand? |
Im Irish 21 and was hoping to travel to new Zealand this may for 3 months for the skiing season.ill need to get a job, hopefully in a ski resort like Treble Cone or something. there are agreement between Ireland and New Zealand so i can get a working holiday visa for new zealand easy enough. But was wondering what way do i approach this. Do i Get the Visa and just Jet over and Hope for the best?. or do i secure a job first by going through a resort website and then jet over.has anybody done a working ski holiday in new zealand? How did you do it? was it hard to find a job? are the jobs on ski resorts Highly sought after.? I Don't have any ski teaching qualifications though i have worked as a lifeguard,Bar person, porter, cad designer and am a 3rd engineering student (1 year left) .id do almost any job as long as it pays enough to keep me there and do some snowboarding. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Go to Queenstown there are loads of Irish there. It is little Ireland really.
You should find a job easily if your willing to do anything. The snowboarding is good there too. |

I would contact all the ski resorts first. Send out an email/letter with all your qualifications/details and find out if there will be jobs available over the season. Most retail stores in Queenstown employ working holiday students etc...so there are lots of options. |

definately look up the websites below. NZ is pretty strict on people coming in and you have to have the right visas. If you have the right area of expertise / willing to work in you will find work....the skifields are filled with overseas people so that must be an area you can look into......I know that some places have shortages in staff...I live in Marlborough where we are literally importing people from the pacific islands to do the work in the vinyards...they are always looking for people....I think that bar work/resterraunt work is another area that is sought after...anyway look at the website and then maybe look at contacting some skifields that might help you with getting a job organised before you come out. |

I don't have any experience with this but I'm from New Zealand, so I know a little bit. You could just come over here and hope for the best, but you also might like to try and secure something if you can... just to be safe.
I think all the major ski resorts have websites, so you could try get something sorted via email. There's Treble Cone, Coronet Peak and Ruapehu are good places to start looking. I think you might be better off in the South Island though.. better touristy and party lifestyle down in Queenstown, Wanaka and Dunedin! |

I would advise anyone that intends to visit New Zealand to first log onto the local yahoo news website, www.yahoo.co.nz to witness the horror of rapes, murders and violent bashings and assaults that are occurring in this country on a daily basis. Just monitor the site for a few days to witness the frequency of crime.
New Zealand has turned into a very dark and dangerous country with many areas of Auckland too dangerous to visit. If coming to New Zealand do not visit areas of Auckland like Mangere, Papatoetoe, Otara, Manurewa, Wiri, Middlemore, Otahuhu, East Tamaki, Takanini, Westfield, Onehunga, Kelston, Penrose, Manukau, Homai and Drury to name a few.
Areas of Auckland central city are also very dangerous, especially at night. This has horrific crime and violence. If visiting be very very careful, get into a “Corporate Cab” that is driven by a New Zealander, if you don’t want to be driven 10 times further than you need to go and get ripped off. Preferably get picked up by friends and/or a reputable international tourist company shuttle/bus.
Unless you are staying and travelling with friends familiar with the “dark spots” of this country be very careful.
An honest and concerned Kiwi |
