Would you remmend some places to visit in New Zealand?

I am in South Korea. This summer vacation, I have a plan to visit New Zealand for my trip. However, I have a problem. That is one I have no information about New Zealand ever. So, where do I go to in New Zealand in order to feel the country's real history and fun?

You will arrive in either Auckland or Christchurch - and a good idea is to arrive in one city and leave from the other so you can travel and sightsee between the two islands.

Both cities are interesting with good museums for the culture. From Auckland ,Rotorua would provide the best look at Maori culture. Go north to the Bay of Islands .Wellington houses our national museum Te Papa, Parliament, and many historic buildings. It is a nice city to spend a couple of days, with a lot to see.You can walk around much of it.

The South island is quite different to the North. It depends on what you like. First call would be Nelson, where you will find lovely beaches, Abel Tasman National Park, wineries, arts and crafts, through Nelson Lakes and down the West coast, - Punakaiki, Hokitika,Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers, then through Haast Pass to Queenstown , which is a must , with lots of fun activities and beautiful scenery. From here on through Wanaka to Te Anau and Milford Sound which are are also stunning. Then head back to Christchurch via Dunedin and the east coast.

The best way to see what is of interest is to look at http://www.holidays-in-newzealand.com. Follow the two pages with New Zealand scenery ( the second page is South Island) which has good ideas for an itinerary. You will need to adjust what you see according to how much time you have and how you plan to get around. Look at Transport options and buses ( bus passes) if you plan on public transport.

If you have a good look here you should come up with plenty of ideas of what appeals to you.

Summer vacation? So that will be winter here (NZ).
Most of the outdoor activities for which NZ is famous will be too cold. The beaches will be a complete waste of time. You can visit the ski fields, go to Waitomo Caves, go to Rotorua, but really you should go to NZ in Summer.

If South Korea is in the Southern Hemisphere then your summer should be the same as ours?

It depends what you are into, we have great beaches, nature tours to see kiwi birds at night (they are nocturnal) penguin & seal colonies, etc. Great bushwalking, skiing, volcanic activity in Rotorua, etc.

Great train trips:

tranzscenic.co.nz

The South Island train trips are good but the one from Auckland to Wellington takes 13 hours or something so it's very long & you need a lot of patience for that!

newzealand.com is a tourist website

Your best bet is to get a Lonely Planet guidebook, at the front it gives advice on what to see depending on how much time you are spending here, like if you only have 2 weeks it will suggest what is best to see during such a short trip, but if here for one month it will suggest other stuff, etc. It will also tell you all about NZ culture & history.
