My girlfriend and I will have 5 days to do whatever we want from Barcelona. We were thinking about going down the coast to Costa Del Sol, via train. Money is a factor, and we would really like to find some beautiful beaches (we're from SIesta Key Florida where the beaches are pretty), inexpensive place to stay, some nightlife and touristy stuff.....should we head north instead? Thanks for your help....we'll be there at the end of May this year!!
5 days isn't too much time so forget Nice/ Andalusia.ETC;
Theres a large clean beach about I hour from BCN
(Castellfels playa) yellow bus 94 $1.40 then you can come back to BCN in th evening for the night life and restos. Further South is the " Delta de l'ebre" which is a natural reserve. Or North take the train to St. pol del Mar...not much of a beach but the village is pretty and the train runs along the coast. Or Further North (Playa Santa cristina) but you'll need to rent a car.... (about 2 hours drive) a super pretty beach. Then in the same area there's Girona and Figureres (Dali museam) And then from there "Cadaques" ( Dali's village but quite touristy) then Cap de creus ( very wild) ...All by car. ( take the coast roads not the auto pista) Or if you want mountains go in-land towards Andorra...but forget the Andorra Town unless you want to buy electronic junk and cigarettes.... and the customs post do check out tourists. Or much further North west in the "Val d'aran", a very pretty road that winds along the lakes that supply BCN with water... then heads across the Pyrenees towards south west France. You'll have ample there for 5 days and end of May is the perfect time.
la vita e bella
You can go up to Nice, France. The beaches are different there but still worthwhile. It is a beautiful place. Have fun in Barcelona!
Spain Lover
The best Spanish beaches are located in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata - Nijar (Almeria - Andalusia Southern Spain). These are unspoilt volcanic beaches which will impress you. They have been the backdrop for many movies, including Steven Spielberg movies..

The Costa del Sol is a fantastic idea and Spanish rail travel is fairly cheap. Here is a link to give you some idea of the beauty of the place.
