Advise on hiring a lawyer in Spain please?

Hi every body. I am an American citizen thinking about doing business in Spain. I have been in touch with a lawyer in Sevilla, where I'm hoping to get started. It took him 2 months to get back to me after our first meeting, to let me know that it will cost me 15,000 Euros for his services to get my business started.

I have a feeling that is way too much. It is for me anyway. Any idea how much the lawyers fees are in Spain for applying for business permits and name registration, and everything else that goes with doing business in Spain. FYI i plan on starting a very small business to start with. It will be only me working. I will have to import some goods into Spain.

Your advise would be very much appreciated. Also if you know of a good lawyer with more reasonable rates in Sevilla area please PM me.
With thanks..

This is like looking for a needle in a haystack, can be tricky as you've found out. However, I used to sell property and was recommended a lady lawyer in Torrevieja Costa Blanca.
She has represented me on various occasions (they also have an accountant, who is her hausband )and I have also recommended her to others. She is a very dedicated and excellent lawyer. She speaks good English, as do all her staff. If you want her telephone number email me and I“ll gladly pass her number to you.

My brother in law lives in Spain. I regret to say that anyone can call themselves a lawyer, with no qualifications at all! Unqualified lawyers may not appear in court, but they can conduct all out of court legal business.
My only suggestion is that you contact your nearest Spanish Embassy or Consulate and ask their advice.

Hi. I“m an American living in Valencia, Spain. My wife is a lawyer. She can help and give you a good quote. People here are ridiculously informal but she is quite formal. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you her e-mail address.

who said that???? " I regret to say that anyone can call themselves a lawyer, with no qualifications at all!" That“s completely UNTRUE.ALL lawyers MUST have a university degree qualification.Whenever you seek for they help you can ask to see it.

The lawyers fees are VERY expensive in Spain I tell you!!!
I“m a Spanish citizen and having a lawyer is the most expensive fee you can pay over here.
Two months to give you an answer? That“s not right.
I don“t know the exact price they charge to prepare a business to open, but to buy my house I paid 6000 to the lawyer, just to change the name because the house was second handed. And because it was the only way to do it,as there was someone living there when I bought it.

I live in Spain and can tell you that a lawyer in Spain is not the same as the USA.
My lawyer was a recommendation. I'm so pleased about that, having seen other peoples problems.
If you are starting a business and need a lawyer here, then come over and look for one. It is tax deductable.
