Anybody know about Mallorca? |
I went to Magaluf last year on a stag do. On the bus ride back to the airport I noticed how nice the island really was. Magaluf was fine but very tacky. I want to go back to Mallorca with my girlfriend for a more laid back holiday.
Im not really sure where on the island to stay. We want the warmer south and she wants a beach. Somewhere where it is nice, just to walk around, without English people shouting in your ear all the time, away from tackiness but also not too boring.
Experts on Mallorca please give me as much advice as possible.
Thank you. Additional Details A friend suggested Palma Nova. What do you think of it. Ive heard conflicting advice. |

Puerto Pollensa gets my vote - I've been three times now and it's lovely. There are plenty of restaurants to go to and a nice big beach.
Edit: Hey Jackie, I'm only in my 30's! A lot of Brits go to Alcudia and it's only about 5 miles away from Puerto Pollensa. You could hire bikes and cycle along the flat road - I've done that a few times! |

Yes it's very nice. Much quieter than Magaluf. Is famous for its Gin and the invention of mayonnaise. You'll have a great holiday. |

Don't feel you need to be south for warmth, the north is great and in mediterranean terms not far away.
If you want laid back and beautiful scenery, try Puerto Pollensa.
If you drive, get a small hire car for the week, it is actualy cheaper than the coach transfers for 2 of you and you can explore the beautiful coast line and cliffs and have trips inland a little.
Try to get an appartment within walking distance of Pine Walks a lovely location for an evening stroll and a paddle after a nice meal.
We would avoid a hotel selling itself as Puerto Pollensa but actually 2 miles out of town. They look to be more like holiday clubs and you lose the delight of the eveing walks by the sea.
Also, don't go too far to the eastern end out toward Alcudia as it's a bit dead and the beach deteriorates. Lots of people outside their hotels waiting for the bus into town. That said, Aldudia itself is worth a trip out, it's a bigger, busier location but still a mile away from the tackiness of Magaluf/Palma Nova. |

Add Porto Cristo to that list. |

I preferred Santa Ponsa. Alcudia & Can Pickafort is nice, peurto Pollensa is more for the pensioner type. |

Almost anywhere outside Magaluf is perfect for a laid back holiday. We went there a few years ago and stayed in C'an Picafort on the north coast - not much beach, I admit, but very enjoyable. I can't understand your statement about the south being warmer, it's such a small island that the temperature is the same anywhere. Anyway, I hope you have a great time! |
