Not so british!!!
I've gone on holidays there since I'm a child. It is true that, in summer, is crowded but, still, there are a lot of stuff to do.
The port "Puerto Marina" is full of life. There are discos, pubs, bars, restaurants and many shops. From there, you can go east for a long walk by the sea side or west for a not so long walk but yet nice. To enjoy the beach I recommend you take the one located right after Puerto Marina to the east. It is bigger, better sand and usually cleaner water (depends on the wind, though).
Tip! If you're gonna spend the morning sunbathing (please, protect your skin) take drinks with you (there's a supermarket in Puerto Marina). You'll see people selling drinks on the sand , they are ok but overpriced.
Tip2! The best price/quality restaurant in Puerto Marina is the "Club de Buceo". It is in the middle of the parking lot in the way to the main dock. Prices are great for the are and the quality of food there is very high. Try "espetos, coquinas, chopitos, calamares and even their salad". To drink, try sangria or "tinto de verano"
Leaving the beach, you'll love the "Parque de la Paloma". It's a public park with a lake, terraces and a lot of animals. There are little bunnies, squirrels and lots of birds. In the same park there is the Selwo Marina Dolphin Park which is a small zoo with penguins and a dolphins show.
Up in the town there is Tivoli World Amusement Park and Teleferico. The amusement park is an old style one. It is cheap to enter to have a look. It has lots of gardens and fountains, plus some shows like flamenco or American Western. Then, you can decide if want to try the rides.
Teleferico takes you to the top of the nearby mountain. Up there, there is a birds show and optionally can try quads or horse riding.
There is an old small village which was the actual Benalmadena. Its is like 10 kms up to the mountain. It's a typical white village, very quiet and with great views.
That's for Benalmadena, but the Costa del Sol have soooooo many other places to go and things to do that you better check the websites I give you or just visit the tourist info point in Benalmadena. Anyway, worths a visit Malaga, Ronda, Nerja, Mijas, Puerto BanĂºs... Torremolinos and Fuengirola are the nearest towns and are also interesting |

Yes we live in Antequera and often go to Benalmadena, its a great place to visit, try the Park there, plenty of wildlife, also a good mix of English and Spanish that go there, there is a lovely Marina, with some great shops along the way, if you fancy a little retail therapy. Just one tip, watch your handbag if you go for a meal or coffee, my Friend put hers on the floor where we were sitting having lunch and had it stolen, last year so just be aware. |

Well done Rafa L, lovely description -
There is Benalmadena, Benalmadena Pueblo (old village) Benalmadena Costa, its not all Ole bars and Brits, it has some lovely places to visit, you will not be bored in two weeks here! the bars and restaurants are good, varied and very reasonably priced, don't let the pound/euros exchange rate scare you, it is still "cheap" here, you can live as cheap or as expensive as you pocket will take you!!! good wines still cost about 1.99 from Lidls, best steak I got some yesterday 15 euros a kilo, so if you are self catering its still good value, I have been here for 26 years, only intended to stay 3 months, wonder what happened!!!
Have a nice trip!!!
PS I live just up the road from Tivoli World!! |

It's a mass British tourist spot just like Benidorm. Plenty of everything that is British not much of anything Spanish.
Go to the bus terminal and travel to Gib for the day - it'll take a couple of hours but well worth it. |
