The similarity between Galego (the language of Galicia, as you know) and Portuguese is quite striking; though certainly NOT surprising at all, given they are neighbors [and their dialects were most likely derived from a common linguistic origin].

Maybe that's why so many Spanish immigrants from Galicia ended up settling in Brazil, instead of moving on to the predominantly Castellano-speaking nations of South America like Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chili. ... Or maybe they just ran outta money or got off the ship in the wrong port! 8-O

Anyway, I've visited Santiago de Compostela and La Coruña twice, and have found the Galicians to be a most hospital people; not to mention, the food is wonderful too. They are your typical meat and potato's kinda people - folks after my own heart. ;-)

My great-grandparents were Russians and Italians; otherwise we're just your average run-of-the-mill Americans.

I'm not from Galicia, but I had to see the question to find out which region of Galicia you were referring to; there are two such regions, you know. In addition to the part of Spain you are referring to, there is the Polish region of the same name. :)

I'm not from there ;) But I live "close" by in Navarra... it is a region called "Green Spain"

The weather usual has more rain there here, but 25ÂșC+ in Summer, never more than 30ÂșC though

;) Great weather here today, 17ÂșC for the second day of March. Amazing =D

Look into www.aemet.es for the weather.
The Polish Galicia got its name from the Spanish one. When the Catholic Kings (Isabella la CatĂłlica and Fernando de Aragon) expulsed the jewish population, many went to this reagion in the east and took the name of the old home with as a rememberance.
I live on the other side of Spain, in the Region of Murcia.
