I lived in Spain for 3 years and I loved it. Yes the people from Madrid are very friendly and they will welcome you into their country. Learn the language and the customs and you will be able to get more out of your experience in Madrid.

5 years living in Madrid now as a foreigner and I love it. The greatest benefit of Madrid is that it attracts people from all over Spain and as such has a wide variety of cultures and mindsets. Your best bet is to learn a little Spanish before you come over and when you start living here go to the local bars. You don´t have to drink alcohol (many madrileños dont) and instead see the bar as more of a meeting point. People will be genuinly curious to talk to a foreigner and you will soon fall in with a couple of groups of people.

Do to the huge number of people who move to Madrid for work from all over Spain I prefer to see Madrid as a series of contected villages as opposed to a city with its own identity.

If you want a tip to get along quickly with people... Start watching football. Of course I would recomend Atletico but thats just because its my team :-)

Spanish people are very friendly. I haven't been in Madrid yet, but I have visited Barcelona. According to that and to all I know, Spain is a great place for living, for foreigners as well. I think you should go there and try. If you don't like it (and I doubt it is even possible), you can always leave. But don't miss the chance just like that! A trip is always an amazing experience.

very nice place to live in.People are very friendly to some extent.
To get respect from people you have to respect them.Avoid suspicious places and people.
