There are many modern homes now days, the other writer Pompal 08 is quite correct, the firm Sanyres have a chain of homes all over Spain, they are very comfortble to say the least, many have gyms/pools/24 nurses on station/emergency help/ panic buttons, etc., etc.,
IN more rural areas some of the homes will not be so well equipped, more basic none the less very clean/comfortable/nurses/food etc.,
Those nowadays on the costa are very up market, secure gated entrances many of the apartments for the elderly being privately owned as well as rented.
There is no need to worry about the care of the elderly here in Spain I would not worry about having to put my mum in a place here - rather than in the UK, just to be left sat around waiting to die! It is not frowned upon so much now by the spanish to put granny in a home, like many other countries folks don't have the time to look after the oldies in the family when they have to work for a living. |

Yes there are a few, but nothing like the UK. They are not run by the state, they are all private. Most of the nursing homes are there for the expats. Most Spanish families look after their old folk rather than letting the state do it.
I live in rural Spain. People here would be ashamed if they didn't care for their elderly relatives. |
