Madrid does it for me...a wonderful city...and I am not a city person.

Some of the highlights of Madrid would include the Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza art galleries. The Prado is simply amazing and even a whole day there would still leave you wanting.

Luckily both the Prado and the Thyssen are only a 10 minute (max) walk from the wonderful Parque del Buen Retiro.
A wonderful place to stroll, sit and people watch..also they they have the memorial to those killed in the Madrid bombings March 2004.

The Plaza Mayor is also another must...sit there and have a beer/coffee and soak up the atmosphere

Chueca in the centre is a lively part in the centre, almost anything goes. It's quite alternative, lots of interesting shops, locales and restaurants..it's the main gay area, but also filled with many people who go there simply because there is a good buzz and a great atmosphere.

Well, in Barcelona, the locals prefer to speak Catalan as opposed to Spanish, and if you want to practise your Spanish, Madrid might be better.

MADRID.

If you want to speak Spanish. In Barcelona, people speak Spanish and Catalan. This means that many people do not speak either language correctly.

For Spanish go to Spain, not Catalunya.

I have never been to Madrid but I can highly recommend Barcelona. It was way beyond my expectations in every way. Can't wait to go back.

It is possible to take in both, the trains are first class. Depends on how long you have to spend there.

If I was forced to choose, it has to be Barcelona. Their Spanish is not as you would expect, they pronounce their words differently and some have a tonal way of speaking you have to hear. Great experience all round.

Madrid's awesome! I think Barcelona is a bit dusty, but it's an ok city. But Madrid is better, in my opinion.

I love Madrid, its one of my favorite cities in the world.
Barcelona is very laid back and have fablous beaches, if
you go at the right time of year. But still, hands down I
say go to Madrid. It has so much life and culture, I promise
you won't be disapointed!

Belén
I recommend the two cities: Barcelona and Madrid.
Barcelona is good, but a little dirty.
Madrid is more clean, so I recommend that city.
