Banking Options?

I need to know of a good bank in Spain. I would prefer one that is located throughout the country but also may be associated with other banks in other parts of Europe as well. Please list the pros and cons of whatever bank you use and/or recommend so that I may make an educated and reliable decision with my money.

I'm not sure about those requirements, but anyway, should you need to use some bank, I would recommend either Banco Santander (BSCH) who has offices throught the country and partnerships with some other banks in Europe -though they'll charge you when you make a cash withdrawal outside Spain- or BBVA, which is the 2nd largest bank in the country. Check their websites and see which one you like better. Try to avoid the 'Cajas' -such as Caja de Madrid, Caja Segovia, CAM, etc. which are regional banks and would have fewer number of ATMs and Offices. Good luck!

Hiya
You dont need property or NIE number to open an account i had lived in Spain 2 weeks when i got my account with Cajamurcia and i have had no problems with them, i have found there staff very helpfull. Cajamurcia is a nation wide bank as well. I would recommend them to anyone. But if u want a world wide bank try santander in spain they are part of Abbey or try HSBC.

take care.

You can only have a bank account in Spain if you have property here. & a NIE number or you are resident.

I live in Spain

You can have an account as a non resident without an NIE but must produce your passport or ID, but you will need an address. If you intend staying for more than 183 days a year you will need an NIE number as you will be classed as a resident.
