Very individualistic city--people there have a reputation as making a lot of money, but being somewhat stingy. (I thought they were pretty generous & helpful with me, but most people don't eat out much, preferring to save money & eat at home). A lot more casual than Madrid or Sevilla, but still a big city vibe. It is on the Mediterranean, but was a little too "big city" for me--I preferred the towns south of there. If you like art, it is known for it's artists--there is a very neat park called Parque Guell by Gaudi that has pretty amazing mosaics. The gothic neighborhood downtown (Barrio Gotico) is pretty funky--dark, tiny alleyways with hundreds of unusual stores.

It's a city.

You're going with school? It will be like a school tour.

Plan to go back on your own one day, and explore all the stuff you'll miss on this one. Cause you will. There's only so much time, and it's a huuuuuuuuuuuge city!

Have fun! (you will).

Where the Isla meets the Tay.
It's like a large city in North east Spain.

Notorious for pick pockets - they even take things like cameras and phones off peoples belts! The people I was with had both taken - it does put a blight on the City.
I found the half-built church ugly and grotesque, and the sculptures around the streets equally unattractive, but I am more of a traditionalist.
The most wonderful things I found in Barcelona were some of the views when you went up the hills out of the City and the Praying Mantis insects which would fly down and help you drink any spilt beer on your table at roadside refreshment areas!
It isn't a place I would visit again.
