My main tip would be dont fly to Barcelona Girona.
It is nowhere near Barcelona.
It should be called Girona airport.
Can you not fly into Barcelona airport ?

It's about 1h by bus. At Girona airport you can take a regular bus service that will drives you up to Estacio del Nord. When you arrive there you can take the metro or the barcelona bus in order to get you up to the gothic quarter that it is in the ver city center of barcelona.

I assume that your hotel in in the Gothic quarter and your flight lands you at Girona. So as to avoid a long walk from the bus stop in Barcelona dragging your suitcase behind you, Please take a taxi. It's worth it to avoid the hassle and it will not be too expensive

Fact 1. Gerona / Girona Airport is the Stanstead (London ) of Barcelona. It is 40 miles away in another province.

Fact 2 Take the bus from the airport to Barcelona.

Fact 3 Petty theft is not as bad as they say it is. Would you put a valuable camera on your belt? Would you buy a carnation from a thieving Gypsy? Of course you will not! Another good reason for taking that taxi.

What you must do in BCN is just wander about looking in all old and quaint shops. The town is really quite safe and IÂ´ve wandered all over the old parts of town without any trouble.

I see no point of going to an empty football ground. A match? ..............well that would be great!

The Sagrada Familia is worth seeing.Go early to miss the mobs. Once in,walk right through to the other side and take the lift from there (one euro). The queue is less.

Check www.barcelonabus.com for the timetables and prices for the coach from Girona airport to Barcelona city centre.
the ride takes 1 hour 10 minutes and busses depart 30 minutes after your plane has landed (busses cooperate with Ryanair and wait in case of delay).
I recommend taxis, too. They are inexpensive and keep you safe. Public transport is www.tmb.es
If I adviced to "try to not look like a tourist" it might be difficult, but keeping it to: don't let strangers talk to you on the street (tying to sell you a flower. lighter etc), and always keep your bag where you can see and feel it, that should do!
The Barcelona Tourist Bus is great to get an overviwe of the city. They do 2 different routes, passing by most mayor attractions, and have a hop-on hop-off system.
Barrio Gotico is very nice, during the day and the night.
Portaferrissa and Portal de l'Angel is great for shopping shoes and clothes. And so is Calle Avinyo.
Next to the gothic Cathedral is a beautiful Art Gallery.
Strolling down La Rambla is amusing.
Loads of night life around the Plaza Real (always with an eye open though).
The Port Vell restaurants next to the sailboats are great to try
a Paella or fish+seafood dish.
El Born is a very nice area, too. Maybe even nicer than Gotico. Easy to reach cause its on the other side from the Gotico - crossing Via Laietana towards the Arc de triumfo.
Staying in the Gothic Quarter you will hardly need public transport. Just walk and you will discover so many beautiful things!

Im just back from watching the might Glasgow Rangers get a beating off Barca. I would recomend the tour of the Nou Camp its impressive. Also the bus tours are good to see all the sights. Also the is a fresh food market on Las Ramblas(the main street with bars/restraunts) on the left hand side if you are walking up from the harbour, thats amazing, fresh fruit and food everywhere.

The Metro is the best thing about getting about, super fast and super easy, they go everywhere. You can get a multi trip ticket (10 trips) for about 7 euros

Fly into Barcelona Airport.

Yes, petty theivery is HUGE in BCN!!! We were (extremely minorly) pickpocketed there, and when we went to the police station, it was FULL of people, all with similar stories. Not a single violent crime, just petty thieves. (That's a good thing, by the way - just annoying) Keep all valuables close to your person...I carried my purse and large camera over my shoulder and under my arm, tucked tightly as I do in most cities. My husband let his guard down, and someone in the subway got into his pocket.

Hmmm. One thing to do in a city the size of Barcelona? That's tough. No one has mentioned The Ramblas...walk up, peek into tiny shops (touristy, and probably more expensive than anything a block or two away, but...well) have an expensive drink and a tapa at one of the patio cafes in the middle, and just people watch. There are stalls all the way up, and you can buy birds (yes, live ones) flowers, artwork, all kinds of stuff, directly from the merchants. There are performance artists all up and down in between the stalls. At the Sea end, is the Monument to Columbus, who points out to the South, so as not to be pointing toward Portugal, and at the Inland end is PlaÃ§a de Catalunya, and the Corte InglÃ©s, which my friend assured me WAS worth going into the grocery section, just to get inexpensive souvenirs. If you want really good Chocolate and Churros, we found the CafÃ© de la Opera (across the Ramblas from the Opera), was great.

Beware of pick-pockets; watch all your belongings. I had my camera stolen in Barcelona - it was clipped to my belt and I thought safe!
Go up into the hills to look down on the City and Cruise ships in the harbour, and while there look our for large, lady Praying Mantis - they are magnificent.

Hi,

The Gothic Quarter is the heart of Old Barcelona, a medieval city built upon Roman foundations which has to be the first place to explore once you've discovered the adjacent Ramblas. Public Tansport Metro Stations arround the gothic Quarter are Plaza Catalunya (L3/L1 and train), Licue (L3), drassanes (L3) and jaume (L4). The train to the airport as well as the air bus go from Plaza Catalunya.

Nightlife at Ramblas street in barcelona is the most interesting thing among the things to do in Barcelona.
