Beautiful but cheap place to stay near Barcelona for a family?
Would like to find an apartment or something similar in a beautiful area near Barcelona for 4 adults and 1 child, for 6-7 nights stay. Would like to keep costs as low as possible as well. Any suggestions?

Forget it. Everything is expensive. Unless you don't realise it, Gordon Brown devalued the Pound. This means that everything in Spain will cost you about 30% more than last year.
The only place that could be described as 'beautiful' near Barcelona is Sitges which is only about 40 minutes away by train.
Sitges is not cheap. In fact it is expensive.
Have a look at the web. Don't be put off by the Gay image the town is given. It is also a popular Spanish family resort.

Depends how "near" is near. There are fantastic rail connections to Barcelona and if you head north by train you have the whole Costa Marseme coast to aim at and nice places start about 20 minutes out of the city.

I am pretty sure there is a gypsy camp near the A56 about 5 miles outside Barcelona, it will more than likely cost you your wife / youngest daughter but in my opinion their hospitality is really worth it.
