Pompal '09.
I am only answering this in view of the criticisms of the above contributor. I notice he was NOT staying at the Ambassador, but visiting on just the one occasion. I stayed there for 10 days in March, and can assure you that this hotel is NOT a dump, and whilst there I met many people who visited every year, others who had chosen it for a long stay & even spoke to one couple who spend every other two months there. My wife and I stayed on a half board basis, and the breakfast was so good that we never ate again until the evening meal, which always had enough choices to keep even the fussiest of eaters happy. The hotel staff were very friendly, the chambermaids very efficient and, all in all, I had no reason to be anything other than very satisfied.
Can I suggest that you check out one or two hotel review sites for a good cross section of opinions.

I agree with pompal 08, the Ambassador Hotel is a nice one, but it is in the middle of everything, bars, clubs etc so could be noisy. However, if you´re going in the New Year it will be full of older people and the kids won´t go in the pool as it will be too cold!! :( sorry. the advantage of the location of this hotel is that you won´t have far to go to shops, beach etc and in the evening you can go to any of the cabarets which are literally in the same area.
Check out the reviews on trip advisor and see for yourself, although take all the reviews with a pinch of salt, some people are never satisfied and so moan about everything, but basically this hotel is known here for being a fair and decent hotel.

Sorry to tell you this, but 6wks ago my friend was staying there, and as I was 75miles north of there, I went for the day to visit her! And it was a dump, her room you could just about walk round the bed, & it was very old fashioned!
I'm serious, I would not stay there, get intouch with your travel agent and ask to move somewhere else!
Good luck.
