Best beach to visit for a weekend in late March in southern or eastern Spain?

I need something that is easily and cheaply accessible by train/bus from madrid. I'm leaning towards Alicante but looking open for suggestions. I need something less crowded yet still fairly accessible by train from madrid (I don't want to have to bus/train/car hop)

It depends upon what you are looking for:

Spaniards that I've known say to go to Cadiz, along the Atlantic. It has beautiful, sandy beaches and is not as crowded as the Mediterranean. The accent is a little hard to understand there, though, it's also a small town, and it is quite a ways from Madrid.

Barcelona, although not as pretty a beach, has more tourist attractions and an easy to navigate metro, with all the fun of a large city. It would also be easier to get to from Madrid, but crowded.

The Mediterranean beaches tend to have more cliffs and rocks and little to no sand. They are not as good for lying out, but can be fun to hike around for great views from above the ocean.

If you know basic Spanish, I would recommend the buses, as they are usually cheaper and faster. The Madrid metro connects the bus station and the airport.

Most beaches in Spain are kept clean and are cleaned every morning
