I really would like to visit Spain but I'm not sure where to go or what to see...anyone have any advice? I live in the US and have never been to Spain before. Also, best places if you have kids.....
A friend and I will be in Spain for 6 weeks at language school. We'd really like to see a lot of the less metropolitan lifestyle. Smaller towns, with less urban culture. Any ...
I know in Mexico electronics are 30% more as well as in the Czech Republic, Phillipenes etc. What do Spanish people need that we can get cheaper here?...
The quality of life is very high in all those areas.
For settling down I would choose Valencia, because it's a worldly city by the sea but doesn't seem as weighed down by tourism as Barcelona. I've always found it very similar to Madrid, but with a beach. Alicante is similar to Valencia but a bit smaller and I think with a more Andalusian feel.
I wouldn't choose Barcelona simply because I personally believe Catalan to be an ugly and unappealing language, and a few people refuse to speak to you in Spanish even when they have full knowledge of it. But if you like that language, then Barcelona is a great option.

The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the visitor with a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. There is also 1 mile long city beach with clean soft sand, ideal for sun bathing.

I lived in barcelona for four months. i would not raise a family there. I absolutely loved it, but you literally live on top of people in a big apartment complex without a yard. no where to run around and do "kid" things. Of course there are parks...but even a wide open soccer field is hard to find. people just play in plazas or wherever they can find. little privacy. more for a younger crowd and tourists.

i haven't been to alicante for a very long time, but the difference between the other two is marked. barcelona is an exciting cosmopolitan city, it's buzzy and colourful like a funfair with sunshine. so there are lot's of tourists.
i prefer valencia - it's very very spanish. if it was me, i'd live in valencia and visit barcelona often!
